Fann Á Porter and The Workshop Dubai in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi are pleased to announce Older Than Love, an exhibition by celebrated Italian photographer Martina Zanin presented by Cantica21 - Italian Contemporary Art Everywhere.
About the exhibition
Opening to the public on 16 November at Fann Á Porter, gallery space at The Workshop Dubai, Older Than Love is a thought-provoking multimedia art installation that invites visitors to a cultural discourse between Italy and the UAE.
The work is based on memory, emotions, and artist Martina Zanin’s personal archives that provide metaphorical and poetic expressions when comparing man and falcon. Alongside this exhibition are works by Emirati artist Fatma Lootah which offer a unified narrative from the Emirati perspective. Both pay direct homage to falconry, a foundational part of UAE’s heritage and culture, featuring engaging audios, videos and photographs.
Older Than Love by Martina Zanin is among the 45 selected projects by Cantica21. Italian Contemporary Art Everywhere, an initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) – General Directorate for the Promotion of the Country System and by the Ministry of Culture (MiC) – General Directorate for Contemporary Creativities, to promote Italian contemporary art around the world. The work is on loan from the permanent collection of the Fondazione Modena Arti Visive in Modena, Italy.
The exhibition will be open from 16 November to 5 December 2021 in Fann Á Porter, gallery space at The Workshop Dubai, located at Villa 45 - St. 23b - Al Wasl Rd opposite Box Park - Jumeirah 2, Dubai, U.A.E.
About Martina Zanin
Martina Zanin (b.1994) is a visual artist born in San Daniele del Friuli. She graduates with honors in Photography from Istituto Superiore di Fotografia in Rome and received a Master’s in Contemporary Photography at Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid.
Her artistic practice, linked to her personal experiences, addresses different themes among which memory, relationships, and emotions are central. She uses photography often associated with other media, such as text, archive material, video, and sound, thus creating multi-layered narratives within which narrative spaces and perceptions intertwine. Her photographic, visual language is characterized by a poetic expression. Zanin selects overlays and/or sequences images following a structure in which they speak to each other, determining visual and dynamic associations in an attempt to go beyond what is visible.
Zanin is the author of I Made Them Run Away published by SKINNERBOOX (2021). She is the winner of Camera Work 2021, Images Gibellina, and Cantica21 supported by MAECI and MiC.
