Born in Deir ez-Zor, Syria, in 1968, Monif Ajaj graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Fine Arts in Minsk in 1995. In 2006, he received first prize in the competition for young Syrian artists. He has exhibited at the Zara Gallery in Amman (2009, 2007, and 2004), at Art Dubai in 2011, at artspace Dubai in 2010, at Khan Assad Pasha in 2006, and at Darat al-Funum in Amman in 2005. His work is included in various private and national collections, such as those of the British Museum in London, Darat al-Funum in Amman, and the Ministry of Culture in Damascus.
